About Us The co-owners of Buffalo Barry’s Indian Art are husband and wife team, Barry Walsh and Valerie Wedge. Indian art is our passion and avocation. We have booths at two major Indian art shows each year including the Marin Native American Show in San Rafael, CA in February, and the Whitehawk Native American Antiquities Show in Santa Fe, NM in August. Brief Biographies Barry Walsh is the founder of BBIA. He curated a long-running exhibit on katsina carvings at Brown University’s Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology in Bristol, Rhode Island. He is a frequent author on Native American subjects including articles on the katsina dolls of Wilson Tawaquaptewa, Otto Pentewa, Jimmie Kewanwytewa, and several pieces on traditional style Hopi dolls. Barry also wrote an article for Indian Trader in which he infiltrated a Navajo “kachina” factory and disclosed their assembly line methods. Barry’s photos of this factory were published in Zena Pearlstone’s book, “Katsina” and have been used by the Hopi tribe to expose illegitimate copies of Hopi katsina carvings. Barry has a Ph.D. in social work and is the Executive Director of The Bridge of Central Massachusetts in Worcester, Massachusetts. The Bridge consists of 33 programs that serve children, adolescents, and adults with serious emotional disturbance, mental illness, or mental retardation. He has presented internationally on the topic of self-injury and co-authored the book. “Self-Mutilation: Theory, Research and Treatment.” His most recent book entitled, “Treating Self-Injury: A Practical Guide” was published in 2006 by Guilford Press of New York.
